Choosing Your Artist Wisely

What an amazing day! You are shopping for wedding vendors for your wedding.  Maybe you are a bride that has dreamed about your day since you were a young girl... maybe this is not your thing what so ever.  The question remains, where do you start?  I have brides tell me all the time that after they searched on line for a beauty team on their wedding day, they were left with more questions.  What if you have found several artists you like and they all have raving reviews?

1) Ask around! And don't ask just anyone. Ask friends who have been married or have been apart of the wedding day beauty regime.  Did they love their makeup? How did it last? How did it look in the photography? Was the beauty team friendly? Professional? Sanitary?

2) Call an artist that strikes your fancy.  Did they take the time to answer your questions? How soon did they get back to you?  Make sure they are knowledgeable, friendly and SINCERE. If they are not prompt returning your call, if they are rude, fake, clueless or insincere you can rest assure that will be the prelude to a very frustrating relationship.

3) If you have already chosen other wedding vendors (venue, photographer, etc) ask them who they like to work with.  Vendors are picky! We like to work with others who show off our work beautifully.  We also like to work with others who are professional, pleasant, and fun.

4) When you have your wedding trial, keep in mind that this is the personality that you will be working with on your wedding day.  Does the artist, 1st, have a personality? Are they warm and attentive to your questions and concerns? Is this an energy that you would be happy surrounding yourself with on your wedding day? Lastly, did they execute what you wanted or perhaps even exceed your expectations?? If yes to all these questions, then they are the artist for you!

5) Realize there are differences in artists and their VALUE. Do not confuse a great deal with a great artist or great value.  If an artist is charging top tier rates, there is usually a reason.  They are in demand and they have the credentials to back it up.  Higher end artists also have insurance, LLC, employees, continued education, websites, high-end and professional supplies to maintain their kit... all these added perks to the client adds to the price as well.  I have booked many brides who initially passed on me because my rates were over their budget, and they have come back to me after having a trial with another lower priced artist.  Our values are different.  And now sadly, those brides were stuck paying for multiple bridal trials which ended up costing them more!

6) Have a good idea on your wedding day esthetic and find an artist that has a portfolio to support that.  Be clear on what you want and open to the professional suggestions given to you.  What looked amazing on Kim Kardashian may not look amazing on a pale red-head... be open to your artist's feed back and direction.  And last of all HAVE FUN!! It is all about you and your day!!

Cheers,
Heather
